Chapter Ten

Over the course of his acting career, Silas had probably kissed hundreds of men. But most of those had been stage kisses.

And for all that this kiss was supposed to be theatrical—and it was definitely designed to be caught on film—there was nothing at all insincere about it.

As a matter of fact, it might have been the hottest kiss he’d ever experienced. The feel of Zane’s firm lips against his sent a shock through his entire body, leaving him shaking, trembling from surprise. Almost without his volition, his arms snaked up around Zane’s neck. His fingers threaded through the back of the omega’s sandy brown hair, tugging him closer, as if he could make sure the kiss never ended.

A deep, possessive sound echoed from somewhere down in Zane’s chest and he tightened his arms around Silas even as his tongue gently teased the alpha’s lips open. The heat of him filled Silas’s senses, like a drug that left him dizzy and reeling and wanting more. Zane tasted like summer—hot and clean and fresh. Aching desire swept through Silas in a way he would never have expected.

It took Silas more than a moment to realize that the flashing lights were actually the camera flashbulbs going off and not some further effect of Zane’s kiss. When he finally gently ended the kiss and pulled away just far enough to make eye contact, Silas laughed a little shakily.

“That was...” Silas’s voice trailed off. “More intense than I would’ve expected,” he finally finished.

Zane’s smile was all male and more than a little protective. “It’s exactly what I would have expected. Except the real thing is much better than anything I could have imagined.”

Out of the corner of her eye, Silas saw Bert give Zane a little wave and a grin and head back to Joey.

“I need to call my publicist,” Silas finally said, his voice trembling.

Zane took the phone out of his pocket and handed it to him. “Will you promise me one thing?”

“Probably,” Silas hedged.

“One more dance tonight, no matter what your publicist says you should do.”

“I promise,” he smiled as he stepped back toward the window where they’d had their earlier conference with Bert.

His hands shook as he prepared to dial Eileen’s number on Bert’s phone.

This day had begun with Zane saving him from an actual fire. It looks like he was about to save Silas from a virtual one as well. And for all that he had told the omega that this was not a real date, Silas was beginning to wish that it was something more than make-believe.
